STAFF REPORT
A midseason run of manageable games could help lead to bowl eligibility for Nebraska this season.
A glance at the newly released schedule for next season, on the other hand, might lead one to believe that Nebraska would be wise to get its six wins in a bit earlier in 2024 – just so everyone can sleep a bit easier.
The Big Ten announced its 2024 football schedule on Thursday afternoon, the first season without divisions in the new 18-team Big Ten.

The slate turns downright scary in late October for a Husker team that by then will be only halfway through Year 2 of coach Matt Rhule’s rebuild. Consecutive games for the Huskers beginning Oct. 26: at Ohio State, UCLA, at USC, Wisconsin, at Iowa.
That’s a tough run of games for any team. It’s also life for all teams in the league which adds UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington in 2024.
Other 2024 schedule points of interest:
>> Nebraska will have two byes, on Oct. 12 and Nov. 9.
>> NU’s first four Big Ten games are Illinois, Sept. 21; at Purdue, Sept. 28; Rutgers, Oct. 5; and at Indiana, Oct. 19.
>> 2024 marks the fourth straight season the Huskers will close the regular season with games against Wisconsin and Iowa.
